Eligibility

This visa allows you to visit Australia for holiday or to pay a visit to family and friends. This can sometimes be a difficult visa to obtain, as there is a strict requirement to show that the applicant is a genuine temporary entrant.

• be a genuine temporary entrant (you must show intentions to return to your home country - such as employment, assets and/or family)

• evidence of sufficient funds for your stay

• evidence of your purpose to visit

• fulfil health and character requirements

• sign the Australian values statement

Considerations

You can be onshore or offshore when applying for this visa, and when your application is decided.

This visa does not permit the applicant to work in Australia, undertake study or social security benefits.

In some cases, a monetary bond to the Department is required from the applicant’s Australian citizen (or permanent resident) family member/s to show your intention to return to your home country.
